An Otherwise Empty Room published<\/a>
\nMy short and practically wordless play, An Otherwise Empty Room has just been published in the 2013 issue of CLOCKHOUSE, the literary magazine published in partnership with Goddard College. CLOCKHOUSE is devoted to a variety of genres, publishing fiction, poetry, memoir, creative nonfiction, as well as dramatic work. David Dannenfelser \u2013\u00a0 Educator, Director, Playwright<\/strong><\/p>\n

David received a BA in Special Education from William Paterson College<\/strong>, an MA in Educational Theatre from New York<\/strong> University<\/strong>, and an MFA in Directing and Playwriting from Sarah Lawrence College<\/strong>. He has been an Assistant Professor of Theatre\/Performance at Bloomsburg<\/strong> University<\/strong> and an Assistant Professor of Theatre at Hobart and William Smith Colleges<\/strong>. David has taught Theatre courses for Wells College,<\/strong> Rutgers University (Mason Gross School of the Arts), Montclair State University, The Oberlin College Theatre Institute, Theatre For a New Audience<\/strong> in NYC, The Mustard Seed Theatre Lab<\/strong> also in NYC, and The Classic School<\/strong> in NJ. David has also taught courses in playwriting for The NY Shakespeare Festival\u2019s<\/strong> Playwriting program in residence at The Joseph Papp Public Theatre<\/strong> and for Playwright\u2019s Theatre of NJ<\/strong>.<\/em> He has also been an adjunct professor at Muhlenberg<\/strong>and Morris County College<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

David has directed the plays: The Burial at Thebes<\/em>, by Seamus Heany, Dead Man\u2019s Cell Phone<\/em>, by Sarah Ruhl at Bloomsburg.<\/strong> At Hobart and William Smith Colleges<\/strong> David has directed; The Misanthrope<\/em>,<\/strong> by Moliere, The Water Engine<\/em>,<\/strong> by David Mamet, Dangerous Corner<\/em> by J.B. Priestley, Lysistrata<\/em>by Aristophanes, Twelfth Night<\/em> by William Shakespeare and Lucia Mad<\/em> by Don Nigro. He has also directed his own adaptation of The Words Upon The Window-Pane<\/em> by W.B. Yeats at Wells<\/strong> College<\/strong>. David directed two plays for the Inertia Theatre Company<\/strong>,Watching and Waiting<\/em>, <\/strong>a collection of one-acts by Don Nigro and Life During Wartime<\/em> by Keith Reddin, for which he received an OOBR award for best revival. As Artistic Director for the Icarus Theatre Ensemble<\/strong>, David has directed Pullman Car Hiawatha<\/em>, by Thorton Wilder, An Almost Holy Picture<\/em>, <\/strong>by Heather McDonald, Book of Days<\/em>, <\/strong>by Lanford Wilson, Wings<\/em>,<\/strong> by Arthur Kopit, The Long Christmas Dinner<\/em>, <\/strong>by Thornton Wilder and his own radio-styled adaptation of The Legend of Sleepy Hollow<\/em>. David received a Directing Fellowship from The Pennsylvania Stage Company<\/strong> (LORT) for the 1994\/95 season, where he directed fully staged productions of Patient A<\/em>, by Lee Blessing and two one-act plays by Eugene O’Neill, Fog & Thirst<\/em>. David returned to PA Stage<\/strong> in the 1996\/97 season to direct the premiere of Fish or Cut Bait<\/em>by John Holleman. David has also directed The House of Bernarda Alba<\/em>, by Federico Garcia Lorca, Largo Desolato<\/em>, by Vaclav Havel, The Loveliest Afternoon of The Year<\/em>, by John Guare, The Hour Glass<\/em>, by W.B. Yeats, Going To Pot<\/em>, by Georges Feydeau (Sarah Lawrence)<\/strong>, God<\/em>, by Woody Allen, The Glass Menagerie<\/em>, by Tennessee Williams, and The Children\u2019s Hour<\/em>, by Lillian Hellman (NYU)<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

David has written, directed and produced his plays: The On Being Series<\/em> and Sid Berkeley Radio Slave<\/em>, at Here <\/strong>in NYC, The Keeper<\/em>, a full-length radio play performed live at the Joseph Papp Public Theatre<\/strong> and broadcast over WBAI in NYC, and The Boy Who Lost His Sock<\/em>, a full-length children’s play adapted from a story by Patrick Gallagher and produced by The Youth Theatre of NJ<\/strong> in Sparta, NJ & The Kitchen Theatre <\/strong>in Ithaca, NY. Other plays include; In Five Boroughs<\/em>, produced by Expanded Arts<\/strong> in NYC, When Words Fail<\/em>produced as a part of The NYC International Fringe Festival<\/strong> in 1998 and later at the John Houseman Studio Theatre<\/strong> in 1999. The play now appears in the anthology, Plays and Playwrights For The New Millennium<\/em> published by The New York Theatre Experience<\/strong>, edited by Martin Denton. His own radio-styled adaptation of The Legend of Sleepy Hollow<\/em> has been produced by Wells College<\/strong>, Offworld Theatre Co<\/strong>., Icarus Theatre Ensemble<\/strong> and broadcast over the airwaves of WCPE Radio, Union County College<\/strong>. David has written many one-act plays and collections including; The Catcher In Bed-Stuy<\/em>, produced byHowling Moon Cab Theatre Co.<\/strong>, NYC, Jack and Jill in Christmastown<\/em> at the Short Play Lab<\/strong>, NYC and Endtimes Productions<\/strong>, NYC. His plays The Blessing, Rain<\/em> and Bicycle Boy <\/em>were all produced as a part of theRutgers U. Play Festival<\/strong>, New\u00a0\u00a0 Brunswick, NJ 2008, 09, 10.\u00a0 He recently produced his new play, The Medicine Show (A Play With Music)<\/em> at the 2007 NYC Fringe Festival<\/strong>. His play, Gargoyles<\/em> was selected as a semi-finalist in the 2009 New Play Festival at Centre Stage <\/strong>inSouth Carolina. His short play, Between You and Me<\/em> has been named as a finalist in Curan Rep\u2019s<\/strong> 2011 Notes From The Underground Festival <\/strong>in NYC. David has had numerous workshops and readings of his one-acts and full-length plays and is presently working on a book of short plays for use in the study of acting.
